Howdy all. Checking in from our last stop in Italy. Being here for the World Cup was something special. Caught 2 Clapton shows and just for the record, ABB is the best damn band in the land. Derek needs to play a few live ABB shows for Eric, so he can see how it's done. Clapton's shows were good, but just too rigid. I guess after loosening up with the Cream reunion, he's gone back to slick, tight arrangements. Both shows we saw were the same exact setlist. Derek's big song to step up is Little Queen of Spades, where he can wail on slide. Clapton actually played some great rhythm behind Derek, while he soloed. It also inspired Eric to play his best lead of the show. However, no Anyday, Why Does Love..., or Bell Bottom Blues. The show was tight, but way too stiff. Unless Cplaton loosens it up a bit and mixes up the setlist, I think it's a waste of Derek's talent. The scene at the Lucca show was incredible. In the town Piazza, surrounded by cafes & ristorantes and ancient architecture. Perugia was a festival at a stadium, but the whole town was part of the festival and had many stages spread throughtout the town (also an ancient city in Umbria). Got to meet and hang out with JohnDrake (Giovanni), from here on the GB. He offered a lot of hospitality to us, which we are very thankful for.
