From Rowlands' recent Peach Gram, in part..... ..."The Allman Brothers Tragedy and stupidity forced Southern rock's greatest band to change lineups often. Duane Allman and Berry Oakley died in motorcycle crashes in the early '70s. Greg Allman went all Hollywood, marrying Cher and becoming addicted to cocaine and heroin. Chuck Leavell and Lamar Williams left and never came back. Today the group is a hodgepodge of session musicians and (much like the Temptations) tours like an oldies act. "... Rowland, I am a little surprised you would let a 2 bit piece of press get under your skin, broh. It is trash talk...no different from some of the rants we are all guilty of, except he actually got paid to lay the turd. I would simply ask the writer to attend a gig and cover it. Get him free access and to objectively cover the event. The guy has an obvious bias towards bands that have reformulated themselves. Personally, he smacks of some truths in my opinion weaved in and out of the article overall. He is misinformed relative to the tribute band aspect of the ABB (someone could sent the dude a setlist from the Beacon to prove the Band is not stuck in a timewarp), so I would hope the dude would do the right thing and cover the band a show or two, THEN express his opinion. You can make that happen. Otherwise, writing this guy is a total waste of time. Unless he is deaf or stupid, the only way to silence his pen is to let him hear the current product. Actually, I laughed at his article. How old is the dude? Is he actually old enough to have seen the Jim/Jimmy/Duane perform? Funny he mentioned the lineup as session musicians today, when Duane himself was a session cat. Nothing wrong with that background at all... Rick
