Los Lobos was incredible!!!! As Bird72 stated weeks ago, this was a show not to be missed. We got the call a few weeks ago that we were needed to work the show, hubby on production, me doing merchandise and my oldest son just along for the ride. (He just broke up with his girlfriend and needed some uplifting). Hubby/Son got to the venue early and I arrived later as I had to work my regular day job. When I got there the hubby was already beside himself, having already met David Hildago earlier when he came to the back door and showed him his pass. As if that guy (who incidently is as big as a mountain) needed to show a pass to anyone. The hubby said how much we had been looking forward to this show, since it had been quite some time since they played Atlanta. He even mentioned to him that his wife heard from a friend in Montana who could not say enough about how good they were when they played there just recently (yes that would be you Bird). Quetzal (a young band from LA) opened the show and just blew everyone away, they do a mixture of latin/celtic/country sounding music with the most darling young lady on violin. I saw her chatting with my son later on after they played both of them just smiling away (let the uplifting begin)! I spent a good deal of time selling merch and chatting with the fans during all of this and met some folks from as far off as Liverpool who came to see the show. Then on top of that it was Marty's Birthday (DTB's light man) so here come the DTB crew Blake, Matt, Marty, Marty's girl Wendy and also Johnny Moe and lovely Vanessa. So here we are having this little ABB related family reunion of sorts. Los Lobos hits the stage and the place just goes wild. The new tunes are unreal and the house is just jumpin, happy people everywhere you turn. Everybody dancin and just having a great time. David Hildago is just egging everybody on to throw off the shackles, chuck your worries and loose yourself in the music. And that is exactly what they did. They ended the show with "Bertha" and by that time the whole house was dancin, merch girl, security, management, bartenders you name it. The hubby was on stage with their road manager who drug him up there for the last thirty minutes of the show as appreciation for the great job he did for them. Yeah I caught his old butt up there dancin like he was sixteen again. After we wrapped everything up, all the guys with Los Lobos chatted away with my family and treated us so kindly, I will remember it always. My son was talking to Conrad and mentioned Derek and Conrad said "Are you talking about Derek Trucks?" and he said yes, Conrad then went on to say "That young man is simply amazing and told us that they had in fact asked Derek to come play with on the same night that he played with Les Paul, but because he was already committed to playing with Les Paul he could not make it. So hopefully one day it will work out and Derek will get a chance to play with them. I know it would something special if that were to happen. Anyway, the band signed posters for us and gave us all a guitar pick each and told us what a pleasure it was to meet our little family and what a great experience it was for them. But really the pleasure was all ours. I truly can't say enough about Los Lobos, what a wonderful crew and band. We all agree that this was a show to put down in the memory book and will not be forgotten. Sorry so long!
