"Bought the box set of The Band, wow...... 5 CD's and a DVD and a real high grade book, full size....... it is the caliber package the ABB era with Duane warrants...... I always thought the Dreams set, content very good, packaging and photo's very poor and drab and resolution lacking. But this Band one appears nice...........
one thing I saw a bit of the other night, and also has footage on the Band DVD is the "Festival Express"..... has anyone bought that movie...... what a cool deal that appeared...... "
Bird, glad to hear the feedback on the Band box set, I've been meaning to pick this up. It looks amazing. I actually just started pulling out my Band cds after I saw Festival Express in the theatres when it came out last year or the year before? I can't get enough of the Band lately.
I think my favorite footage in Festival Express is after they restock the train with booze and dose the Canadian Club and Bob Weir claims, "I think you can say we achieved lift off." Then I believe the scene that follows is Janis Joplin, Bob Weir, Jerry Garcia and Rick Danko doing a sing along in one of the train cars. Garcia is basically professing his love to Janis and Rick Danko is so out there he looks like his head may pop off. It looks like they are having the time of their lives, which apparently may have been true as Garcia would later pen Might As Well about the train ride..."never had such a good time in my life before!" My other favorite scenes are Buddy Guy tearing it up in concert and then Sha Na Na showing up for a stop on the tour and the rest of the bands are in the front row in the crowd totaling digging Sha Na Na.
