Hey Fans:
We rolled in from Warren's Christmas jam last nite about 8:30. Road work added two hours to 8 hr drive. Traffic in B-ham added another hour. Long trip home.
Great to see Wille Howard in the Best Western parking lot. Wish I had time to visit. Don, & Nancy were ready to go. Kay and I were draggin along.
Great to see Bird & Mel Sunday. Great seeing Greg Potter and meeting his lovely wife Barb. Nice to see Tommy & Lynn checking out.
The gig:
I loved the opening part.
Warren singing Soulshine was a great way to start. Edwin McCain & Kevin Kinney, plus Warren on I Shall Be Released was a hilite for me. Love that song.
I had never seen Drive By Truckers before. Really enjoyed Patterson Hood & Jason Isbell. Who along with Brad Morgan & Dave Schools kicked some serious As@. Marty Stuart joined and was a pleasant surprise. Audley Frred was as good as usual. Warren came on to join for Lookout Mountain and was great.
Dr Ralph Stanley did good with some great Old time music and the crowd was real nice to them.
John Scofield ( the main reason for me wanted to go other than Warren & Mule), Andy Hess, John Medeski and Stanton Moore did some serious Jazz Jamming. Warren, Ivan Neville and Ron Holloway joined for a smooth Night Time Is The Right Time.
Finished with Turn on Your Lovelight. Folks this set kicked.
Ray LaMontagne showed a big pair to follow this and do 4-5 acoustic songs. I missed some but waht I saw was great. Great voice.
Marty Stuart came on for a couple and I liked it a bunch. Then Warren, Matt,Danny, Dave joined for Killers You Ain't Goin Nowhere,Mr Spaceman and I Don't Think Hank Done It This Away. Another real good set.
Hot Tuna ( another fav) really jammed. Jorma and Jack had it goin on. Warren joined for Rock Me Baby and it did. Love Hot Tuna.
Serial Pod was great. Trey,Mike and Bill are a great trio. Cumberland Blues into the other songs was great.
Mule came on around 2.
Perfect Shelter was. Bad Little Doggie had this old man dancing again.
( Folks it is hel@ to Dance at this time of the morn after all of the above plus standing in line for over and hour)
Living Loving Maid got the crowd rockin. Plant & Page would have been proud of the boys.
32-20 with Ron Holloway & Ivan Neville kept it going.
Don't Let It Bring Ya Down with Audley was great as well.
I got my He Said She Said and love it.
A real heavy Hunger Strike> Dear Mr Fantasy> Hunger Strike was very interesting and good.
Mule continued to kick on Thorazine Shuffle.
It ended with a I Know You Rider long jam with Trey Anastasio,Marty Stuart,Dave Schools and Bill Kruetzman. Man it was hot.
A great jam and a great time.
Ya'll have a good one.
Light
Billy.
