A recap of last night: There was a rescheduling of the date awhile back, apparently created a conflict at the club. The reason the show was sold out was because our local dairy farmers association was holding their Christmas party there too. Some stayed for the show, many didn't, pretty much ended up with family. Bluedad, SistaBluz, SPDB, WillieHoward, some friends of the band that made the trip from Illinois, a few other locals that arrived late when the word got out seats were available. Now I don't quite know what to say about the show. To these ears, it was spectacular---the highlight being the extended Mountain Jam with the round-robin drums, and Brent sitting in. After a long second break, it was clear the band wasn't pleased. Apparently they don't think they played up to their potential, the stress of having to make it perfect perhaps a factor. These are not a bunch of fearless youth, carefree and playful, but mature men who have been blessed late in life with a dream opportunity. I would gladly pay $20 for what I heard last night, but the bar has been set at the very highest level. We may be a part of a new force in American music as it's being birthed. A poignant moment with Pete during the second break....everybody was breathless, recovering from the Mountain Jam. Pete mentioned what a shame it was that it could never be released due to the copyright situation. I gently reminded the brother that Mr. Sandlin co-produced the original, deals with similar situations all the time. Sometimes it's hard to grasp the reality of the moment. Back again tonight for more. Despite the gravity of the situation, at the end of the night Lefty had Bluedad and WillieHoward on stage wailing away as the night ended. Such is family. EAPFP
