Sounds like you had a happy Thanksgiving, Leah.
I finally got to my package from Donna and Rusty late yesterday...friends who I met randomly because of Duane Allman's band, kindred spirits whose lives crossed mine at the right point in time.
Amazing how our musical tastes match.
I don't know the guys from Fretted Instruments or the Pogues, but every year, for over 20 years now, I always play Dylan's Slow Train Coming while wrapping Christmas packages, primarily to enjoy the work of Mark Knophler. Jimmy Hall and Scott Boyer have become friends this year, Tinsley and Topper friends from way back. Spent Derby Day 1990 with Topper, joined him at a couple of early Derek shows. Lil' Ed and the Imperials have been the biggest surprise at 2nd Street Music, their CD has been on my carousel since.
Elvin Bishop and Chuck produced by new friend Johnny Sandlin. Merry Christmas, Baby--an oft-overlooked classic, but I must say my favorite version is the one I've heard live many times by Jerry McCain. Jon Anderson's Yes--my all-time favorite non-ABB band.....
No matter what I get this year, nothing will be as special as this gift. Thanks guys, looking forward to the music.
PS: Saw Jimmy Walker last night, he was quite moved by the gift, said the song selections were teriffic.
