A very interesting couple of days in my little town.... Harry Case came into town Thanksgiving Eve to play with Big Stephen McCollough's band. Some of you met Stephen at the Jam, he's the keyboard player for the Skydogs. Harry Case was part of Count M'butu's band, and has joined Derek on stage at both his shows here. They square off, throw down. Good stuff. Meanwhile, directly across the street, appeared Rev. Jeff and Blueground Undergrass. I knew Rev. Jeff and Harry Case were both involved in the greater umbrella created by Col. Bruce, turns out they were old friends. So, at midnight on a Wednesday night, here in the middle of nowhere, I'm hanging out at my local bar with Jeff Mosier and Harry Case and a gillion other souls smart enough to be there. Pretty damn incredible. Harry said he would be back for the Col. Bruce show on New Year's Eve, would try to make the DTB show the night before at Variety Playhouse. Keep an eye out for him, a diminuitive black gentleman, wears sunglasses due to glaucoma. Some of you have heard the story of how live music first came to Gadsden in 1977, as a result of a Gadsden native, who played in Roger Wilson's band, coming home for Thanksgiving and talking the owner of our local hippie bar into opening up Thanksgiving night. He organized a band of locals, they passed the hat, it was so successful that they booked the Roger Wilson Band, eventually every band in Atlanta started coming here. So last night, we're all basking in the afterglow from Wednesday, Big Stephen and I go across the street to see an excellent Dead cover band. We notice an old dude come in with a harmonica case. Turns out it was Max Moseley, the same harmonica player that brought live music to our town 29 years ago. He was in a band in Atlanta with Bill Stewart (Snake Doctors?) Bill, Jack Hall, and Tommy Talton have been telling people about what's happening here now, he said the word is all over Atlanta, he's going to hang around a few days, check it out. I got to tell a few folks who he was, but had to leave as he was getting on stage. It was 1:30, I had an early client meeting today. But it was kind of a full-circle moment. Lots of talk about the old Atlanta crowd, Albie Schorr, J. T. Speed, Preston Hubbard, Tinsley, Donnie McCormick and Bear, Butch Trivette. Anyway, I ramble (imagine that!). Tonight, the sweet slide guitar of Issac Pike and Spun Wagon, playing in the Lowell George style. If I keep this up, my hair is eventually going to fall out. Both of them. Robey Ducey had to cancel at 2nd Street due to the passing of his father. LC&NMB next weekend. EAPFP
