A few quick points on the recent Hendrix discussion, which I love to see 🙂 First, the LA Forum show from 69 is indeed one of Jimi's finest moments. Sulla is right on with this one! Someone else mentioned the Royal Albert Hall show from 69, another classic, but let me encourage you to check out the "Jimi Plays Berkeley" DVD. For my money, that may be the best Jimi I've seen/heard. The version of "Johnny B Goode" on there will rip your head off! I often think that people who think Hendrix is overrated just haven't heard enough live Jimi! He has his off nights, and Duane may win the consistency prize, but when Jimi's on, it's like lightning bolts are shooting out of his guitar. "I stand up next to a mountain, chop it down with the edge of my hand..." Last night Mule played a great jazzy version of "All Along the Watchtower." It was Van Morrison's "Moondance" meets Hendrix, great stuff! It takes great guts and creativity to take one of the most famous cover songs of all time and reinvent it yet again. I'm sure Jimi was smiling on from above 🙂
