All this Montgomery talk brought back a JFD memory. Kim Payne and I talked for some time about the Dale's Penthouse Fire ( Feb. 7, 1967; 25 dead) that occurred when I lived there in Montgomery (1964-1971). He remembered it as I did. It was just interesting recalling Lake Martin and other shared memories from so long ago, great music playing in the background...
A side note: The Dale's Penthouse fire changed forever high-rise construction. Next time you are in a high-rise or eat at a roof-top resturaunt know that those 25 souls started a revolution in Fire Codes to pray nothing like it could ever happen again in America. We take for granted why we have fire laws until we remember the reasons why regulations get changed.
There are reasons why the Fire Marshall walks down the aisle at The Beacon, or The Fox, clearing the aisle. Laugh at him all you want, but remember he is thinking of you first.
I just wish that nightclub in RI years ago had tougher laws. Nobody should have to die listening to music.
(getting off my soapbox now)
