Yes, Brent I second that regarding Randy. He is a diamond and a swell guy.
I have alligators chomping on my butt right now, but want to take a second to say this; as much as I disagree with some things about the Jam, I hold these apart from the hard work and dedication Brent and Randy have to the concept of the Jam, and will not underestimate that.
Yeah, Tom and I really yucked it up years ago about the Jam in this GB, and some really fine stuff came out of it.
Was this past year the "high water mark"? for the Jam? Not in my view. Maybe for the City of Gadsden...which would tell me the City is in dire need of some improvements to their music scene, nevertheless, I am glad the spin has been a positive one for the City. I guess it depends on what benchmarks are used to measure success to an event like this one. For me, seeing Kim for the first time, or the little area Randy set up one year that had a picture of Duane sticks with me...I like stuff like that. I have always wanted the Jam to be a little educational or have an educational component. Perhaps one year at the Jam there will be a handout of facts about Duane and his discography printed to hand out. I would also like to see some folks actually play some of his other music....like Delany and Bonnie and King Curtis and Aretha stuff rather than all ABB tunes. I asked Brent about doing Layla at the Jam and he said no...stuff like that is just as important to honor Duane that playing Dreams over and over IMO.
Here is something to think about; have you noticed that certain music events that have really grown and are gaining popularity are outdoor venue types? Lanaroo and Wannee are a couple of examples of somewhat new events that are growing and doing well, and I think it is in part because they are outdoors.
Tailgate and at the JFD??? Hhhhmmmm..sounds like an idea.
