Rick, best wishes for the patients and you guys working the neverending graveyard shift.
I did experience this once, The Cuban Boatlift of 1980; but that was only 125,000, and I didn't see them all by any means. They had only the clothes on their backs also. The only 'luggage' that I saw was a cigarbox a little girl was carrying.
The horror is not knowing the patient's history or medication requirements. The wrong pill, given in a correct way, can be deadly. I cry for all the diabetics and renal patients. How anyone could watch 'Nip and Tuck' or other ' cyborg ' TV programs after this is beyond me. There are folks out there needing urgent care, not elective care. Day to day requirements. God bless all medical caregivers; the hospital volunteers that will be tested in these coming weeks.
