Ya know something....some will take this the wrong way, but think this one through before you leap. IF I had lost EVERYTHING.... IF I had to fend for my wife and children... If I did not have basic food nor water nor shelter....for 3 days IF I could not get any assistance whatsoever, of any sort, for days... IF I or a member of my family were sick or injured.... would YOU loot? would YOU allow your loved ones to die from thirst or a lack of medicine? I dont condone the stealing of anything...and I dont equally call all of those folks "looters", yes, stealing tennis shoes or a TV is looting, but think about this for a moment before you are so quick to judge; there are folks out there right now who cannot leave from a certain area. They cannot get help because of the situation. They may suffer from diabetes and must eat to survive. They may have lost everything...including their insulin or heart meds or any number of meds where you simply cannot skip doses. Within hours they know what they face. Its called survival. What about the new mom that was released from the hospital last friday or saturday with their neonate. Days old, and must be protected and fed. And changed. And protected from the elements. So what do you call folks that, because of their medical condition, must seek relief in the way of food and medicine, and stealing it from the local drug store is their only vision of hope right then and there? Thugs? Looters? Well, I do not. For the most part, for those limited number of folks would not resort to stealing under normal circumstances. Honest folks faced with survival. Dont count these folks as looters in my opinion..... ....call them homeless survivors. Have mercy on these folks. Dont corral them up with the TV stealers we have been seeing on television. These same folks deplore stealing, and frankly, there are many who, because of their individual character, will not resort to stealing, and may well die because of it. Group the lot if that is what you choose, but before you do remember it is 90 degrees plus out there and they have been with no food nor safe water for 3 days. I say this: should a person be caught with water or insulin or food or infant formula, take them to a shelter before you shoot or arrest them. They are not the problem. If they are caught with half a buggy of narcotics and the other half filled with plasma TV's well, the last I checked, the TV's aint working too well down there right now. Escort those folks to the slammer. Its called good judgement and compassion. Those two things are going to be needed in huge quantities right now down there.
