Beautiful night at Jones Beach.... Moe started 'er off and the crowd appreciation grew as they went on. Derek and Warren played the last song with them...Lots of noodling throughout their set would be one way to put it. The young folk, mostly in an altered state, seemed the most impressed by Moe. The Brothers were very good but I don't think at their best. I think some of the boys look tired up there when viewed through the tight shots on the jumbotrons...who could blame them for being tired ? Derek - isn't he playing a different vintage or custom shop SG --- continues to be my favorite guitarist to listen to. There continues to be mucho much soul and intensity in his playing. Warren looks a little leaner in the face and tired... He got that Les Paul to speak many emotions as always. He was in pretty good voice too. This venue seems to attract a high population of stoned kids who want to call each other and scream into their cell phones. This combined with the few drunks who seem determined to show everyone just how tough they are makes one consider retiring from the Jones Beach concert goers dealie. Perhaps I can be part of one of the groups not yet identified by Mr Bird...Maybe the Old Cranks Club or something.... Cheers ---enjoy the rest of the summer folks. One more note --sorry to read the news --if it is in fact news --- on Brother Dickey ---Hope he gets well again soon.
