Just got back from tonights PNC show - a really fun blistering show and just a great night all around. The pre-show party hosted by Wharfy was awesome and we had a real nice turnout from the usual cast of characters.
...Onto the show. A HUGE, simply massive appreciative crowd tonight - One of the biggest in memory in fact, probabaly about 18,000 I would say and it was really great to see. The Brothers really draw very well in the Northeast and they rewarded us immediately right out of the box with a looong smokin' "Jessica" with a little Norwegian Wood tease thrown in by Warren...They ended the show even stronger with a full blown 30+ minute "Mountain Jam" that really took off a couple of times. The jam after drums was incredible. Then we were treated to a rare double encore of "Preachin Blues" and then a killer "Whipping Post". In between there was all kinds of cool stuff including Gamblers Roll, Hot Lanta, a cool Firing Line, Hoochie Coochie Man with a long dueling slide intro, StandBack and a great Same Thing w/ Chuck from moe. sitting in. You can tell the band has really been picking up steam the past few shows - the end of the summer always brings out the best in this band. As was mentioned, Derek is now positioned dead center between Warren and Oteil so basically Derek is now the focal point of the stage. Why the switch you might ask? Well, it could be just to change the dynamic a bit or if you want to read into it futher, it sort of is like passing the torch to Derek and saying "Its your stage now kid, you earned it". Whatever the reason Derek can smoke just about anyone at this point - he's that good. Well, I'm beat and off to bed. a Great night with cool friends and another awesome show from the Worlds best live band...
Peace
