Last week with Goliath and MissElf telling stories as we crawled the streets of Macon, it occurred to me what a great connect with memory Macon can be. David points out a house were they lived and says "Gregg had that back apartment". Ellen laughs as she recalls how you couldn't get one inch of hot water in the tub without the hot water heater taking a break. As we walked to The Big House, David points to a house and says he has a friend from those days that might still live there...later a guy mowing his lawn sees David and runs up to him in rememberance. Kirk and Kirsten allow us into their home. If they didn't exist, you would have to invent these kindred souls! You are almost on ABB overload looking at all the gems they have harvested from the mine Duane discovered...bricks from the wall on the LAFE cover...Gold records on the wall...band case Jim Marshall stenciled... At one time I thought ghosts walked the streets of Macon and Rosehill but have outgrown that. People are living their lives here, with a wealth of memories to share with weary pilgrims. To anyone who hasn't had a meal at the H&H,,,walked College Street...sat at Rosehill...listened to the train as it moves slowly by Little Martha, all I can say is perhaps one day you will find yourself in Macon. I've made the journey countless times and yet every time is still a first for me. ...just don't come looking for ghosts.
