Well, after my 4 ABB shows in 15 days, I figured I'd write some kind of review of the whole thing. However, my Momma taught me a long time ago that if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything..........................................
I think Egypt is a fantastic new song, another great version last night in Cincy. Derek continues to amaze, what a gifted musician! Turn him loose much, much more often. Please!
I saw the Toledo, Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati shows during their swing thru Buckeye country. To be brutally honest, only the Columbus show measured up to the expectations I hold for this band. The magic moments during an Allman Bros Band show just seem to be few and far between anymore, at least for me. Maybe I'm expecting too much, but the '05 ABB just doesn't even come close to what was going on in the entire decade of the 90's.
Please understand that I don't think there's anything or anybody out there trying to do what they do(except maybe Phil Lesh). The ABB is still the best around, to my untrained ears, but it just doesn't inspire me like it used to. And, probably worst of all, since when do they quit after 2:20, part of which was a MUCH longer than usual drum section, almost 15 minutes before curfew. C'mon guys, it wasn't a freebie. I shelled out about $45 for a pavilion ticket, drove 4-1/2 hours round trip, and gasoline is over $2.10 right now. Oh well, one man's opinion, your mileage may vary.
