Yes Deez I saw Derek and the Dominoes live at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in SoCal. Jesse Ed Davis was second guitar - a fine player (rest his soul) but certainly no Duane Allman. It was hard for me to appreciate them on their own terms without Duane because so much of what knocked me completely out about "Layla" was Duane and how he pushed Clapton to new levels. They were great, the songs were great, but they did seem very stoned - in 88 Jesse Ed died of an overdose in a LA laundromat - really a waste. he played with Taj mahal, Ry Cooder. I guess this was Clapton's heroin period too...anyway I'm glad I caught them when I had the chance.
