My thannks also to Cujo's dad. We're glad you're here, Bro.
Woody, this is something we totally agree on. Slight correction: 9/24/00 was Huntsville, trust me.
Second wind, my weekend:
Stopped by Brent's gig briefly, on to Boogie's for the spontaneous Decoys show. Did my first setlist, as follows:
Let the Good Times Roll;
Lipstick Traces;
Shot from the Saddle;
(the following w/Tommy Talton) Melissa; Please Be With Me;
It's All Over Now;
Pride and Joy;
(Talton out)
If I Don't Do It;
Silence Ain't Golded Any More;
See You 'Round, Dear;
Can't Do Right No More.
Come on Down to Texas (by Eddie Hinton);
(for the rest of the evening, Big Stephen McCollough sat in on B-3) Take Out Some Insurance; The Weight;
Some Days Never Change;
Jungle Man;
Lucky Me;
Leap of Faith
-enc.- Love and Happiness
The band was N.C. Thurmond, Kelvin Holley, Mike Dillon (formerly w/Dickey), David Hood, and Scott Boyer, with the afore-mentioned guests.
Brent was going to join us, but his gig lasted til almost two--he left 'em dancing and screaming for more...wish I could have been both places.
....so I make it on down to Horse Pens 40 around 6, see the Skydogs in full glory for 3 hours, playing a biker rally. Always a treat, the current state of musical tastes plus the expenses of a 7-piece band make appearances by this ensemble somewhat rare.
Back to Gadsden for Col. Bruce and a packed house...people standing outside in the rain. Big Stephen sat in some in the 2nd set, got to chat briefly w/drummer Tyler Greenwell IV. His dad and Brent were best friends in high school in Pensacola.
Discussed the Atlanta Falcon's strength and conditioning coach with the Colonel after the show, shared a belly-laugh.
The crowd was absolutely sky-high (legally) at the end. As a friend and I headed out, a cute chick ran up and invited us to a naked pool party at her place. I took a moment to check out her and her large biker husband, (risk/reward analysis) politely declined. Nice gesture, though.
BTW, Friday night I heard 2 ladies I didn't know discussing Lefty Collins. Turns out they work at Gadsden Inn and Suites (Doris!)
They said rooms were being reserved briskly for the Jam, commented on how warm and friendly people were when they called in. (Imagine that) I hope to have more Jam news very soon, if you like the Friday night stuff, go ahead and make plans. It's only going to get better.
