Hey now! Catchin' up on the today's posts. That Vegas thing sounds pretty cool, but Vegas just isn't my bag, baby. And who exactly will the lineup be for Phil & Friends? They'll never top that Warren/Jimmy quintet from '01 and '02. Man, those guys could seriously bring it! Carol, thanks so much for the kind words. You've got me blushing over here! SkyPonyDogBoy, you know I'm always up for a debate, my man! So here goes... Which version of "One Way Out" do y'all prefer? I can dig the way the current lineup has very much returned the song to its original, more sparse arrangement. But I REALLY miss the takes on the tune that they used to do during the Dickey and Warren era. I was listening to an early '90's show today, and "One Way Out" was just EPIC, man! It was well over 12 minutes long, and every single second was thrilling. First, there was Dickey's intro to the song. I always used to get goosebumps when he would do his little arena rock solo, 'cause I knew that "One Way Out" was coming. On this particular version, the drums were longer than usual, too. And then there was the dramatic, stretched-out, trippy ending. I mean, don't even get me started on that!! I just loved that sh*t--perfect time to throw your head towards the sky and let out a good yell. And then finally, the one-two-three punch tacked on to the ending, after you thought the song was over. Like I said, I can totally respect the sort of stripped-down way that the band is doing "One Way Out" now, but I definitely preferred the Dickey/Warren era versions, especially as a set closer or encore. Any thoughts? 🙂
