linus, That was probably Rickey Medlocke. Hughey is back with the Outlaws for the reunion tour to the best of my knowledge. Thanks for the Skynyrd review. You're correct that during the 70's Skynyrd was a powerhouse band. The addition of Steve Gaines in '76 gave them a tremendous jolt. I saw the original Skynyrd band in July '76 at the Fox here in Atlanta. I still consider those shows to be some of the best I've ever seen of all the shows I've attended in my lifetime. I had seen them in '74 at Georgia Jam/Atlanta Stadium, they absolutely blew everyone away, including my beloved Allman Brothers. That was a very disappointing day for me personally and I didn't see the Brothers again until 1989, lol. Yes, Lynyrd Skynyrd deserves to be in the RRHOF. From Georgia to California, they were selling out shows, even as an opening act they often blew the headliner away onstage. The Tribute Tour in '78 with Ed King back in the band and Randall Hall stepping in for Allen Collins was impressive. They worked hard and toured heavily, played some good music. For me, Skynyrd helped ease the pain of Duane and Berry's deaths just as the Gregg Allman Tour in '74 did. It's all part of my memories and I respect the band for giving me alot of memorable experiences. I once heard Martin Scorsese quote someone by saying that most musicians know how to rock, but few know how to roll....he was referring to Etta James at the time. I feel that way about the original Lynyrd Skynyrd band as well. They could rock....and they could roll. You either liked them or you didn't. Past or present tense, it's all good! They just didn't have the finesse and sublety that Allman Brothers music spoiled me with. I cut my teeth on Fillmore East, therefore, the Brothers have always been my preference and drug of choice. 😉 Special prayers for those in need, general prayers and blessings to everyone........ goodnight!
