Well . . . all I can say is if there was no "F" in awesome . . . there is now . . . because Eric, Jack and Ginger were Effin Awsome tonight!!!
As for a set list . . . I need Cujo to lend me his thingy next time . . . I started to try to memorize it but gave up . . . suffice it to say they played pretty much all of their catalogue (the only exception that I can think of is Strange Brew which for some reason didn't feature). They opened with "I'm So Glad" at 8-10 and wound up the one set show with White Room at 10-50 . . . they then came back for a "Sunshine of Your Love" encore and finished at 10-05. In between we had "Badge", "Crossroads", "On Top Of The World" and even "Pressed Rat & Warthog" with Ginger on vocals, there was also an excellent rendition of "Stormy Monday" with Eric on vocals. I'm sure a proper set list will be available tomorrow so I won't tax my befuddled brain any more at the moment.
As excited as I was at the prospect of going to this show, I was also apprehensive as to how time may have taken its toll on the guys. I knew Eric was still performing well, but had not heard anything by Ginger of late, and of course Jacks health problems and transplant of a couple of years ago are well known. I need not have worried however, as they were as tight a unit as if they had never split up, Jacks vocals were strong, and his base counterplays as challenging to Erics lead riffs as they always were, and Gingers drumming, whilst perhaps less flambouyant than it used to be, was nevertheless spot on in precision, and when he finally got around to doing his solo on the last number of the evening he proved that he still can run around the drums quicker than an octopus with two sticks in each tentacle!!!
I guess the best analogy is actually the ABB, gone is the raw drive and ambition of young lads with a love of the blues and a dream to fulfill but in their place are ultimate professionals who have learned every trick of their trade and are now doing it for fun. Eric, Jack and Ginger had a smile on their faces throughout the show, and it will be a long time before you wipe the smile off mine . . . "F" in Awesome
