"We improvise a lot in both The Allman Brothers Band and my band. Somebody coined the phrase "Southern Rock" for our music, which is a phrase I don't really like. If you have to give it a name it ought to be called--a progression of blues. The way I see it, in my opinion, is that the blues was born in the Delta, in the South. So you take five parts blues, one part country, give it to a poor white man and you got rock 'n' roll. It's a great transition and one good thing that came out of that for me was that I never had to go through that racial thing of black and white, you know. I never had to deal with that and I'm so glad for it. Because a lot of people still do and it's ridiculous..." Gregg Allman in Blues Revue cover story Apr/May 1996 p. 24
