Well, in the "dumb things to waste your time" category, I did such this morning...
...I actually tried to secure U2 tickets via Ticketmaster this morning. Of course, I was online at exactly 9AM, but the gigs apparently sold out within seconds.....
Like anything else, I am certain there is a back door method to get tickets online with TM, and the scalpers did not take very long to do their magic to secure tickets.
For what it is worth, U2 tried to make tickets available via joining U2.com and doing presales. Apparently, that did not slow the hackers and scalpers down; they just paid the 30 bucks and were able to jump in on the presales, as well as general sales. So, in actuality, they got the best of both worlds.
So, it looks as though folks like meself are going to have to shell out some pretty major bucks to go see them, which bothers me. I have always maintained I would rather see the musicians make the money rather than the promoters or others in the money chain.
Hell, I even give the drummers of local bands a little cash tip during a break when I go to see a local band rather than give it to the club owner. I would rather not drink and give that money to the musician than put it in the pocket of the club owner. They have a cash cow as it is anyway...
