Linnie: I am sorry about the health status of your pet. For what it is worth, PLEASE do not compare the situation of renal failure in an animal to that of a human. TRUST YOUR VET; he is TRAINED and IS the advocate for your pet. With humans, we have far more diagnostic data to work with in order to understand various disease processes that do not exist for animals. Your vet, therefore, is your best diagnostic tool available for you. Animals have no guarantee what their lives hold relative to their comfort and shelter. You obviously provided a loving home, and to that end, gave your pet the greatest gift. Just think of the thousands of strays that suffer because they have no one to even take them to a vet. They suffer and die horribly. You friend does not have to endure that. We love our pets and its hard to let go; I think we have all been there. I would ask the vet a lot of questions, and hopefully the decision you make is in the best interest of the animal. Wish you strength and peace today. Rick Tomlinson
