as I look up the lyrics to "Dixie Down," I guess it depends on who's version you're listening to. Pretty sure that's what Gregg sings. Joan Baez sang it that way. However, looks like The Band original was "above me," not "before me."
Just to be *certain* as to what Mr. Allman sings I guess I'll just have to treat myself to Gregg singing that again tonight among some of my other favorite G.A. moments (like that acoustic Come & Go Blues by Warren & Gregg in Asheville 4 years ago....yowza! ).
