Happy Birthday Gregg. You beat me to 57 by about 3 months...as usual. Have a great day, see you in Feb.
Observations on football---As a Bama fan (NOT a hater of Auburn, or anybody else),
I have enjoyed watching the Auburn people this year as they seriously contend for a national championship. I hope they are gaining an appreciation of how difficult it is, especially if you're from the Deep South and dealing with biases that still exist in the minds of some sportswriters and coaches.
I hope you're gaining a greater measure of respect for the 12 that Alabama has won.
Auburn is a quality SEC program, similar to LSU or Georgia. They are NOT a national class program like Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, Southern Cal, Nebraska, Alabama. There's a different mindset in these programs IMHO, a greater appreciation of the bigger picture. Everything you do, from practice to scouting to recruiting to scheduling--all aspects of the program, you do with an attitude of being the best there is, and you do it automatically, without even thinking about it, because it is your nature. This is a shared approach of the programs that have established the standards for decades. It shows up in the personal life of the coaches and players involved in these programs. It's the attitude Coach Bryant tried to teach to the people of Alabama.
FWIW.
