As an ACC guy, I can tell you that KY, Vandy, South Carolina, Miss, Miss St, and Bama don't exactly make too many folks shake in their boots these days. Even with some of those teams on their schedule and the 3 out-of-conference patsies, Auburn had a harder-ranked-schedule among the big 3 undefeateds by all the polls. They simply started lower at the beginning of the year and didn't have as good of a season in 2003 (shouldn't matter, but it does).
Too bad that Auburn didn't at least get matched up with Texas so they could beat one more 1 loss team & still vie for the AP #1 spot. It's not out of the question they could still swing it. Unlikely, but possible still.
How good would an 8 team or better yet 16 team playoff be this year? It would be the biggest sporting event in America and make more $$$ than people could count. Too bad we may never see it.
