Queen of Hearts....... If there was a single song that I would use to introduce someone to Gregg Allman, that one tune is it. In my own opinion, I ask how can anyone grow weary of hearing (or performing) this tune? I keep Laid Back sheet music up front on my music stand, and everytime I see the complexity by which Gregg composed his chord structure, I am amazed. I am a drummer, but I am a plunker at keys, and I have had experienced musicians sit down and struggle with Queen of Hearts. It a musicians tune, for certain. And flow, man does that tune flow! Its not arkward although complex. What we hear is an arrangement that immediately puts you in a mood; mellow for sure, yet Gregg is singing in a way that has an underlying desperation to it. Combining the smoothness of a jazz feel to words that belong more in a blues tune, Queen of Hearts written by a very young and talented Gregg shows the depth by which Gregg was willing to explore at a young age. I cannot ever grow weary of Queen of Hearts. I hear something new every time I listen to it, and in 30 years one would think that you knew every note played on a tune. RT
