There may be other elements at work relative to decisions to issue vinyl, and in the case of U2, I simply do not know what drives the decision to issue vinyl. It could be that, as hard as this may be for us in the US to understand, other parts of the world either do not embrace CD's or they are kinda behind the times from a technical point of view. I honestly dont know.
And of course, you are right CUH abou the ABB being smaller in terms of record sales and so forth. I think here from my own perspective...all technical arguments aside for a moment...that it would be cool for bands to issue LP releases (limited) of their music. For some reason, and again I admit I dont know all the details here, that if a band like the Allmans issued LP's on a limited basis they would be sold, and I would think quickly...don't you?
When Butch asked me my thoughts about the Band redoing EAP, I addressed the LP thing as a cool marketing idea/suggestion, and I continue to feel that way. Again, you make all the right arguments against doing it CUH, and I have no perspective other than I personally would support the move by buying LP's strictly from a collector viewpoint if they were issued.
But I still think it would be cool. Maybe my eyes are getting so bad that I need to see larger print and artwork. Ever try to actually read that microfilm font they call type inside of CD's?!!
