On this Veteran's Day, I would like to send out a tribute to my father SFC (ret) Fred G. Bowman who served for 22 years in the the army and saw service in both Korean and Vietnam wars. One of my favorite stories from him concerns the time that he was Gen. Douglas MacArthur driver. I found out about this when I was about 10 or 11 years old and I was impressed and asked him about it. His reply, and you need to know he was just an old North Carolina farmboy before joining the army, was "Son, he takes a piss just like the rest of us". Of course, at the time I didn't know what to make of that remark, but over the years have learned not to be to impressed because someone has a "name" or a "position". So anyway, thanks Dad for your service and for your insights into people.
Also, RIP Berry Oakley
