Something really struck me today...the outpouring of love, thoughts, and memories of Duane. The day that we lost him, so many years ago, I felt incredibly alone and empty, even though I was with a group of great friends. Still, they didn't understand, or couldn't understand, the loss that I was feeling that day. I had lost a mentor and hero, and someone that could never be replaced. It is overwhelming that all these years later, people from all over the US are still feeling the same loss that I felt back then. And it is so reassuring that Duane had the kind of effect on people that we at home always knew in our hearts, that he would. Duane was a six-string poet, and a champion of the average guy...just so long as the average guy took the time to understand his music. Cry on sweet Melissa.
