Mmmmm.....you know, I believe that Duane and his followers were truly revolutionaries in the deep South during a time when there was much discontent in America. There were other kindred spirits singing the songs of peace and tolerance like CS&N, The Dead, Airplane. But the ABB REALLY stuck out their necks *(not red!) being they dwelled in a pretty hostile environ that didn't tolerate "peaceniks" or anyone "different"- be it gay, black or whatever color. Duane was asked in 1970 what he and his group were doing to support/help the revolution and he responded: "Everytime we pass through Georgia, I Eat a Peach for Peace; hit a lick for Love...and another great line needed to be censored here! 🙂 The Brothers tried very hard to create music and a familial vibe that was consistant with those other BRAVE patriots around the country who Love America so much that they merely sought Change and Tolerance. Those were Pied Pipers of Peace and Tolerance that this Brother has followed over a lifetime. Thank you Butch for trying to express a sentiment that is consistant with the teachings and philosophy of Your/our Founding Brothers- Duane and Berry! I apologize to you that you came here in peace and felt the safety of this place we share- only to get stomped on by some intolerent angry hardasses posing as followers of Duane's Band of Brothers. It's a shame we...and the music have been unable to tame the angry spirit...since 1970! " Well by and by...many years ago; and all the war-freaks now are leavin' us alone"! Really? Well, we did a Jam for Duane this weekend to try and celebrate his message of love through music. And I hope the vibe we sent out will once again try and seep into the hearts of those so hardened. Because we are gentle, kind, tolerant and loving family...
