AMEN, BUTCH. We are approaching a crisis point in the history of our Republic, for many of the reasons you stated. Not since the days of Watergate have we faced such danger to our Constitution.
And kudos for exercising your freedom of speech while you and I still have some. Any person, of whatever vocation, has (at least for now) the right to speak his or her mind on the subject. And if by virtue of your position or popularity you have the capability of drawing more attention to the subject than others might, then more power to you for risking that popularity in a very contentious time.
Your comment about Caesar was apt. Events in the last couple of years have called to mind the conversion of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire.
I am also reminded of what Ben Franklin said when, upon leaving the Constitutional Convention, he was asked what kind of government we had, a monarchy or a republic: "A republic, IF YOU CAN KEEP IT."
