Skyponydogboy and Randy, my favorite CDB albums were Saddle Tramp and Nightrider both produced by Paul Hornsby, original alum of Hour Glass. There is a tune off one of those albums called Birmingham Blues which is basically Whipping Post rewritten so yeah Charlie owes something to Duane/ABB. Ol' Charlie while being very talented ain't very original. Still I prefer the dope smoking Charlie of Saddle Tramp and Nightrider to the right wing fascist pig bible thumping Charlie of today.
