I had almost completed a long post, before taking a nap, when I lost it all....so I wll try this again..
Last nights show was among the best I have ever seen. It was the show of the run for me, with Friday a close second. Just a great setlist, and even better playing. Derek was so totally on, and sitting right in front of him, on the front row, I could hear every note he played, rhythm and lead, all night long. It doesn't get much better for this music fan. Derek and Warren squared off vefore HCM and were swapping nasty slide runs, then Warren just backed off and gave the stage to Derek, who proceeded to play the most beautiful piece of music, just Derek, following his muse, too sweet. I think Gilded Splinters is a perfect vehicle for this band, the voodoo drums, the high priests of guitar, both playing slide, with Derek taking the main lead duties. Damn.
Last night I had my groove on, doing my thing, eyes closed, head moving, digging the groove, and I feel someting hit me in the arm. Warren had been grinning at me most of the night and then he nailed me with his pick from 20 feet. The pick had a nasty groove worn in it, he must really go through alot of picks, LOL....
Gregg, all weekend, sang as good as I have ever heard him. The best white blues singer in the world.
Ended up with front row Friday and Sunday, directly in front of Derek, and Saturday I was 5th row, dead center (DFC)...thanks to the majiK and mystical one for his help!!!!
Ran into Rob From NC a couple hours before the show and we spent the time productively, Rob is one of the sweetest and nicest cats I have met from this site and I wanted to thank him publicly for the friendship. As always, there is never enough time to spend with everybody, but it was great just being able to say hi for a second to so many, and spend time with others....I saw Great Scott and Nicole for just a too brief encounter, and Rob 'ROC' Johnson, after the last show, for just a giant and excellent hug. Wish I could have hung out with everyone alot more. Brofan, was glad we got what little time we had together at GABBA. It was also very good to see Randy Buppalo during the weekend, our paths crossed a few times, and I know we will get to spend some quality time in Gadsden.
Always great to be with my road buddies Paul and Heidi, Sari, Karen and Lynn, and to finally meet Lee. Terri B was in fine form and put a smile on my face each time I saw her...Saw Denza for just a moment after the show for the first time this weekend, just never enough time...
We finally got Pam down south and she held up to the onslaught pretty good...Pat Crenshaw, I hope you got your GA autograph and sorry I couldn't help on that.
I could go on about how GREAT it is to be in the same venue with such folks as Jim Benjamin, Ron E, Hophead, Joe Bell, Beverly, Musicchick Sue, Ryan and Michael, etc...IT WAS SO NICE TO SEE EVERYONE!!!!!! 😀
It is sad to see the carnival leave town, but I hope this becomes a tradition, this Fox run.
Much Love to Jaimoe for all the years of love and friendship, we will see you soon.
Thank you Lana!! You're a peach. It was fantastic to be with all you wonderful peachheads and look forward to the next time!!!!!
