What a first night...
Just an absolutely smoking performance. I knew I would have a real good ticket, just didn't know how good, and I walked all the way down to the first row, in the Derek zone. From there I had a perfect mix. Perfect. The Black Hearted Woman tore my head off...Talk about mixed emotions seeing Derek walk off the stage and Jack replace him, and then they start Dreams without Derek....of course, since I dabble in Jack P worship on the side, it was fine. The Mountain Jam finale was one of the highlights of my concert going career. Jack, Derek, and Warren side by side by side, playing the most beautiful music these ears have heard....and then Southbound, trading fours, playing the same line, one guitarist picking up where the other left off, three guitarists doing this, pretty ***** amazing. Definitely one of the best ABB shows I have ever seen. Let me also say that this was the first time I have ever seen the drumz get a standing O. There was a silence when they finished, every member of the band looking a bit stunned at what they had just done and heard, and then the audience went nuts.
After a couple of songs, I feel a hand on my back and turn around and Hophead is right behind me, and we just grab each others hand and smile and nod and laugh, no words...two people in their element. THAT was great, the smile of Ron Currens, embracing a friend, listening to the Allman Brothers live, in the Derek zone.
Another great thing was at the break, trying to get outside to smoke, and being stopped, grabbed and hugged about every 5th step by friends...lord have mercy!
Big GABBA day today....Donna, and then Jack, and then the mother ship at the Fox, again.
After the show we ended up in Paul and Heidi's room, and Paul and his old time friend Steve were jamming. They played Mulenburg County, Miss Elf singing lead and harmony, and then they did Angel From Montgomery, with El on lead vox and the rest of the room singing backup. I was in tears. A perfect ending to a great night.
OK, here is a brief roll call of peachheads I either saw or hung out with or both: Pam, Terri B, Lefty Collins, Jim B., Sari, Karen and Lynn, Nancy SS, Chank, The Potters, Kyler Mosely, Allen Atkinson (SantaCruzPeach), Ron E y familia, Pat Crenshaw, Paul and Heidi, Libby and Amber, Carol and Kevin, Carol BlueFox, Rob from NC, Ryan B, Zambi, Michael and Jana Williams, HotlantaTim, Marley, Hophead, Lee from Meeechigan, Neil Barfield, Cujo, Seth Wax and his bride, my old pal Neil from Macon (he lives three doors down from the big house and used to talk with BO alot, and with whom I used to 'get crazy with' and listen to Duane, for years, all night long)...I know I am leaving some out and apologize, it's early....
More madness in store today...if anyone meets me and I am speaking gibberish, don't think twice, it's alright...:D
