Well Cruzpro (Ernie) and I deserve awards for making the marathon "Get Out the Vote" concert at Red Rocks yesterday. The gates opened at 2 PM and the first act started at 3pm (Ray Lamontagna), who was followed by Dave Schools new group, Stockholm Syndrome. They were good and very powerful (we got our group of 7 in the 4th and 5th rows so we were very close). I didn't realize yet what a marathon it was going to be. The rest of the groups were not very interesting to me (Gomez-kind of StringCheesey might have been the best of the rest but I didn't care for them). Finally, at 9:20 Warren and the Mule come out (Hunter Thompson was supposed to MC, but was an apparent no-show) and did a great set that included about 3-4 from the new album and played about 1 1/2 hours before setting up for a short acoustical set (with guests from previous bands). Then about 2 hours after the Mule started up (around 11:20 pm) Warren introduces Gregg (we had been there so long at this point that we were making jokes about Gregg having run into Hunter Thompson and both had left on a road trip!) The faithful were rewarded! The show lasted another hour!!! Gregg sat in on most of the rest. The evening ended with Warren and Gregg trading lead vocals on Soulshine. Three hours of great music. I think Warren brings out the best in gregg-he looked/sounded great (right Deb?)
The music was fantastic (at least the part I came for). The new album is hot!!! Like Linnie said, I cant get Slackjaw Jezabel out of my head-very catchy. I was not really surprised that a number of the songs on Deja Voodoo are very political and caustic towards the war mongers. At one point Gregg substitited "there may be a republican down there" on "One Way Out." Although it was a "Get out the Vote" concert, the groups were all vehemetly liberal and made their thoughts known about the current administration.
Get the new Mule cd. It is hot!!!!!
