There was a thread a couple of days ago regarding CTA / Chicago. Think back to the summer/fall of 1969 where you had Santana, Chicago, and the ABB all putting out their first major label records. Go back and listen to Terry Kath play guitar, and see if you don't hear a man who still stands as one of the all-time best there ever was. Although he is never mentioned in the circle of the best ever (which I will never understand) he could - and did - play some stuff that still has me scratching my head as to how he did it. Hendrix and Allman combined is how I would describe Kath - psychedelic. bluesy, and soulful all rolled into one, and with a voice that was so strong. Oh yeah, and he had tone out the ass, which in today's music is a real lost art. Yes, Chicago evolved into a real pop-sounding POS as time went on, but those first couple of albums still can stand the test of time. The only album that ever started off stronger than the first Chicago album with "Introduction" was the Allman Brothers' "Don't Want You No More / It's Not My Cross To Bear." And listen to "South California Purples." It sounds like the Mule with a horn section. Willie Howard (from Mayberryetta, a suburd of Hot'lanta)
