Hey Steve1961, I wish you would clarify a little more with your definition of the ABB's classic sound. What did you not like? Feel? Tone? Groove? Explain yourself!!
You mentioned the ABB as a fusion Band today. You are right in many respects. And I can honestly say that fusion is not one of Dickey's strong suits. Dickey does CREATE extended solos, but the fusion line and form is not where Dickey's head is at, never has been. He follows the 2 and 4 groove for the most part.
What were some of the complaints you heard on the way back to the car? Beer prices too high? Warren boring? What was it?
Until you respond, I do find it interesting whenever anyone wants the ABB to return to their original sound. Today, I listened for hours to Duane and early ABB VIA LP's.....LP's sound different than CD's and with a good album and good equipment I believe you can hear more.....everything is up front and not computer enhanced. And I will tell you, it would be hard )time and age excluded) for the ABB to recreate their sound, even if they wanted to. Technology....a great thing. It cleaned everything up to the point the old sound...the tube era sound....is lost.
So the sound changes as technology changes. I liken it to soft drinks. Remember how Mountain Dew tasted when it first came out? Or Orange crush? Well, they dont taste the same today....technology changed the taste. Same goes for rock and roll.
