Ron,
I think I Lammie was referring to my post(s).
I'll use as an example one of my favorite road bands, The North Mississippi All Stars. I can't IMAGINE them cancelling a gig for any reason other than equipment failure or death. I'm sure they have, but they would never do it without a damn good reason.
Then again, their dad is Jim Dickinson, who has produced the Stones and countless others, and their idols are Junior Kimbrough, R.L. Burnside, Otha Turner and other juke joint bluesmen who played because they HAD to-it's in their blood.
Can you imagine Junior or R.L. cancelling a gig because they were "too tired" after a 12 hour day picking cotton? I can't.
Most of the Chicago blues guys worked full time jobs and played all night, sometimes getting no sleep before going to their day jobs. NONE of them made in a year what LLB probably makes in one gig today.
They played the blues because it was their life. Not for the money. Because it was in their blood.
I wish the ABB would pick Indigenous to replace LLB-that's a band that can frankly blow LLB off the stage and deserves the exposure. But they're just hard-working, humble folks who simply rip it up every night and give it their all every time they play. I KNOW they would NEVER toss away an opportunity like that.
Bands that have paid their dues don't piss away opportunities like that. They know it might be their only chance.
