Marley,
Nice work, the way you write and your analyzation(Sp?) reminds of a good friend(Michael) of mine who I went to college with. He was an English major and he absolutely loves Gregg's style of writing, and he also loves to break it down like you did in your post. We spent many hours in college drinking and smoking while listening to the Brothers and discussing music. Damn I miss it even though it was only two years ago. Unfortunately he is in graduate school in Valdosta while I am working in Atlanta, but hell we'll get to do it this weekend in between attending Willie Nelson on Friday and String Cheese Incident on Saturday (at the Fox, yee-haw!).
I agree completely with your assement of High Cost. I love that song and it is speaking to me on a personal level more and more each day, as I feel I may have been everybody's host for a little too long now. As far as Old Before My Time goes the lyrics sound alot like Gregg's and it definitely sounds like what he has lived, but on one of the Beacon shows Gregg says it is a Warren Haynes song. Obviously I am sure they worked on it together but Gregg seems to give him complete writing credit. The funny thing to me is that when my friend (Michael) heard it for the first time he said, with out me saying anything about it, "damn, that definitely is a Warren song." The thing that makes me agree with his thoughts are that the tune is very wordy, which is not characteristic of Gregg's writing, but is very characteristic of Warren's(think of Towering Fool). Anyway curious for your thoughts, and I enjoyed your post.
Take care,
Ryan
