DCT,
Luckily I did see Luther about a month or so before he died. You never would have known-he had tons of energy. Performing kept him alive-just like the last time I saw Albert Collins, the Master of the Telecaster, and one of the greatest live performers I will ever see. He opened for the ABB in Chicago in '93 and damn near stole the show. He did his walking and talking routine about 5 feet away from us and I never knew he was dying right in front of our eyes. And he was such a professional that his performance didn't drop off one iota from when I saw him a couple of years previous.
He was a huge loss, as was Luther, whose club, Luther's Blues, ironically enough, I'm going to tonight in Madison with Doug L. (Lkrdg) and his wife Patti and my bud Chitown to see Jimmy Vaughan and Lou Ann Barton.
