Buffalo Bill joined the Peach Corp! The Deadhead I married 18 years ago is now an official Peachhead. Welcome to the GB, honey!
I was multi-tasking at home and did write my thoughts on RR. I left out the part about you getting pulled over-luck and your clean cut image saved your butt. Mine's a longer read-sorry.
What a weekend! Our first Red Rocks experience was a blast. Could be the Beacon of the West based on the number of GB’s there but my vote still goes to the city that never sleeps (more after show opportunities). Smilin’ Jack and his family gave us a great welcome to Denver. Hung out with Bike Mike and Deb in Denver and others sharing concert stories and the love of music.
We checked out Buffalo Bill’s grave on Friday and enjoyed the mountain view. Spent a short time in the bar with the GB clan and then off to Red Rocks and parked in the upper north lot. Very cool to drive through the rock bridge. The view from the top of the venue is breathtaking and sunlight reflecting on the rock walls is better than any light show. Mother nature’s Friday rainbow and lightning show was an intense. Opening with Mt. Jam and closing with Post truly showed the SCI fans what the Brothers are all about. Why Does Love Have to Be So Sad, You Don’t Love Me and Woman Across the River were my personal favorites. Warren really did shine and based on the big smile on his face seems to really dig the venue. I heard he is playing RR 8 times this year.
There’s been some references to the smoke at RR. Both shows were awesome but Saturday especially smoked. Whenever Tom Doucette shows up I get cooked! He, Warren and Derek took School Girl to a new level-thank you to the entire band for that gem! Opening with Revival gave me Beacon chills. Hoochie Coochie and Hot ‘Lanta were my favs and Gilded Splinters was a big crowd pleaser.
The crowd seemed more charged to me on Saturday with twirlers dancing all over the stairs. More than the normal share of costumes for an ABB show. On Friday the cowboy bride and guys in skirts and Saturday the sequin blazer guy with the boa seemed to be everywhere. Even Warren had on a few sequins. The SCI fans were welcoming, very cool and full of colorful characters.
We had amazing seats in the friends and family section thanks to an old friend who welcomed us to the SCI family. Rob Barraco was in the section watching the Brothers, left and played with them, then came back and watched the rest of the show. Oteil watched New Earth Mud from the sound board on Friday. Derek and Mark watched SCI for a while from chairs on the stage. It was all about the music and everyone was getting into it-Charlie darting out on stage was a classic Trucks family moment.
The GB family really turned out for this show and it’s great to put more faces with names. I saw Lee, Sandman and Old Coot once at the show and three times in the bar! Toured around with Brenda Griffin and finally caught up with Jeanne. Ask Brenda how I chatted up the locals about this great web site that brings the fans together and gets us motivated to visit new venues.
I never have the energy to write a Beacon review so thanks for indulging me this time.
Buffalo Bill and I had a great adventure. See you on the road.
