This was copped from a kind soul on The Incidentalist..........
on 12/31/98 Kang and Travis sat in with the all-star midnight jam that
included Weir, Mickey and Billy @ the "Cryptical Development" show in
Oakland.
2/18/99 Warren Haynes sits in with SCI @ the Fox Boulder. could that happen
again this week? [don't forget Chris Robinson & NEM late-nights @ the Fox]
5/4/99 Warren & Abts sit in with SCI in Tulsa
5/5/99 Warren, Abts & Woody sit in with SCI in Dallas
5/6-8/99 Warren & Woody sit in w/ SCI in Austin
8/12-22/99 SCI and Gov't Mule [also Galactic & moe] join Phil & Friends for
the Summer Sessions tour. Kyle is the keyboard player for all the Phil
sets, has a songbook with him all the time with all the GD music in it.
Kang sits in regularly, and the 8/14/99 Red Rocks show has the entire band
sans Keith sit in 2nd set. all sorts of cross-pollination jams. SCI has
retired Bussy and are helping Phil get rolling again, SCI is starting to go
big-time and show huge respect for Phil/Dead/Warren. and there was also a
monster rehersal session @ The Fox on 8/10/99 or 8/11/99, can't rememebr
the exact day of that....
let's not forget Robert Hunter writing lyrics for new tunes for SCI and the
Phil Lesh Quintet w/ Warren. and the Mountain Girl/Barlow connection as
well, Barlow writing songs with Kang And Billy. Kang guets on Phil's 2002
studio effort too.
...now Warren's a main catalyst in The Dead's musical mix. SCI & Warren get
a chance to play together in Colorado again this week. both of them having
come so far since 99. is it too far a stretch to see them all on stage
playing a Dead song together, or at least a traditional that the Dead
popularized like Know You Rider or Sitting on Top of the World?
so what's the point here? well sure seems to me like SCI has played a
certain role in the progression of what Phil/Dead and Warren have done as
well. This week's reunion for SCI & Warren brings one
cyle full-circle and starts another new cycle.
