Hey Charlesinator, I wouldn't go so far as to say that I have a "soft spot" for Johnny Neel, but he had his moments. I liked the song "The Blues Ain't Nothin' " a lot, with his long harmonica intro, and he added some nice texture to some of the other tunes. The harmonica and piano on "Low Down Dirty Mean" was nice, too. Speaking of which, I sure wish the band would dust that one off every once in awhile.
Still, when he would solo, it seemed like the rest of the band got kind of bored and just shuffled along, waiting for him to finish. He is a very talented musician for sure, but it didn't seem like a good fit overall.
