I'm not sure I understand the point that finsky makes and Peachnutt agrees with, that Jack was somehow held back from contributing to his full potential. He had at least two songs in the rotation almost right off the bat, certainly by the '98 season. He also brought back Hideaway, and I never saw anyone give him a look of "What the heck are you doing?" when he went off into his very non-traditional space-walks during a High Falls, Lizzy or Jessica, which BTW, I loved, so please don't take that as a knock on him. I just think he was treated like just what he was; A full-fledged, contributing member of an awesome incarnation of ABB. If y'all mean that ABB didn't turn into a jazz unit to adapt to him, well, that sounds a bit far-fetched to begin with. As Bill O'Reilly says, "Where am I wrong?"
Peace,
Tom S.
PS: Oh, but somebody else mentioned his technique and, man! That dude is as smooth as a baby's butt! I'll never forget sitting in the FRONT ROW at the Fox with my jaw hanging down in my lap somewhere, thinking, "How does he DO that??" He never seemed to have to work at getting those licks out, though I know that's really not fair. No one, talent or no-talent, gets that good without working their butts off to do it. At least that's what I have to believe, otherwise, why would I work so hard and still be this bad? LOL
