Ya know they've had horns at the Beacon the last three years which I've really enjoyed. The horn guys always get into it and it brings the band into that jammin' mode. (Plus some real nuggets pop out, like "Can't Turn You Loose" and "Change Is Gonna Come".) The 5 piece Juke Horns sounded so fat, and they were turned up plenty loud, it created a whole new sound. When they first came in that night, on "Lovin You Too Long," the crowd responded audibly. Reflecting on that performance, with the horn section on six tunes, made me realize why the original band tried recording live with horns at Fillmore East. That big RnB horn section approach is part of their heritage.
