Nanker Phelge was an imaginary name given to the Stones (including Ian Stewart) so that they all got paid.
The Chess Brothers used to pay their artists with a Cadillac. I think Bo Diddley comes to mind...
Amazing how a guy like Jimmy Page, who supposedly reveres his blues influences, would have gone out of his way to screw Willie Dixon-Zep claimed they wrote "You Shook Me" when it was CLEARLY Willie's tune.
Willie won in court, so there IS a God.
One thing about the Stones-They would NEVER have screwed their indluences like that. Like the ABB, they have always acknowledged and credited their heroes when necessary, and often will take those guys on tour with them so that they can get paid.
And anyone who has seen Mick and Keith on stage with Muddy or Bo Diddley or Buddy Guy knows that their reverence is not an act-they really love those guys.
