Hey folks... The guitarist you are referrring to Tommars was David Grissom who really did do a hell of a job under difficult circumstances subbing for Dickey that summer. I caught one of the Grissom shows at Waterloo and was very impressed with the guy... Some thoughts on 3/19/04...This show has been talked about quite a bit lately mostly for the debut of the "Why Does Love...">"Franklins Tower" combo which was incredible to say the least...But I'll tell you the first set from this show is blistering from start to finish - a practically perfect first set. Right out of the box the energy was off the charts...YDLM, Firing Line, Statesboro and then one of my faves "Who's been Talking" is about as good a start for a show as you'll here -all of these tunes are simply crushed by the band and the crowd could really sense it. ..They were clearly hittin- the-note on all levels. A few weeks back Butch posted here and mentioned the "subtle dynamics" that the band is really exploring these days and it certainly is apparent on "Desdemona" and a couple of others. That really slow fadeout on "Who's been Talking" is just beautiful...and you could hear the a pin drop when they were working it through. A great performance from a stellar run of shows...
